How to Clean Your Entire Home with Just Three Ingredients

In a world full of brightly coloured bottles and complex chemical formulas, it’s easy to feel like we need a different specialised cleaner for every corner of our home.

You can achieve a sparkling, fresh and truly clean environment using three humble ingredients already sitting in your pantry.

Switching to eco-friendly cleaning isn’t just better for the planet. It also has incredible benefits, is alot safer for your family and much kinder to your budget.

1. White Vinegar: The Ultimate Descaler

Vinegar is a natural acetic acid, making it a powerhouse against bacteria, grease and mineral deposits.

  • Best For: Windows, mirrors and removing limescale from faucets.

  • Cleaning Tip: Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle for an all-purpose glass cleaner. Add a few drops of essential oil (like peppermint or orange) to soften the sharp scent.

2. Baking Soda: The Gentle Abrasive

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a mild alkali that causes dirt and grease to dissolve easily in water. Because it’s slightly abrasive, it’s perfect for scrubbing without scratching.

  • Best For: Scrubbing sinks, tubs, and deodorizing carpets or refrigerators.

  • Cleaning Tip: Sprinkle baking soda on a damp sponge to lift stubborn stains from your stovetop or tile grout.

3. Lemon: The Natural Bleach & Refresher

Lemons are high in citric acid and possess natural antibacterial properties. They leave behind a scent that no synthetic perfume can match.

  • Best For: Sanitising cutting boards, polishing brass and freshening the internal bins.

  • Cleaning Tip: Rub a halved lemon over a wooden cutting board with a little salt to deep-clean the grain and remove odours.

Choosing these natural alternatives reduces the chemical load in your indoor air quality. Many conventional cleaners contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can irritate the respiratory system but by sticking to the basics, you ensure your home is a sanctuary that is truly pure.

The Golden Rule:Never mix vinegar (an acid) with bleach.
Stick to these three natural ingredients separately or in specific safe combinations to keep your home safe and green.
